Welcome to The ARC

The Air Race Classic is the epicenter of women's air racing. Pilots range in age from 17 to 90+ years old. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds including students, teachers, doctors, airline pilots, business owners, professionals and air traffic controllers. Race Teams, consisting of at least two women pilots, must fly VFR during daylight hours only and are given four days to make flybys at each en route timing point and then land at the terminus. The race route changes each year, approximately 2,400 statute miles in length with 8 or 9 timing points.

In 1929, airmail routes and airfields, including KVTA, were laid out across the country with beacons and concrete arrows to show airmail pilots the way. The KVTA beacon and concrete arrow are one of very few remaining. Today, the airport now boasts a new FBO and maintenance hangar with plans for a new ramp in the near future.

4. Monee, IL (C56)

Bult Field is a civil public-use airport located 3 miles southeast of Monee, Illinois, a south suburb of Chicago. The airport provides pilots and passengers direct access to central and eastern Will County and the greater Chicago Southland area. The airport is home to EAA Chapter 260, Tuskegee Airmen Chicago "Dodo" Chapter, and the CAP Thunder Squadron. Legend has it that Monee village was named for Marie LeFevre Bailly, a French-Ottawa Indian woman, wife of fur trader Joseph Bailly. "Monee" is an indigenous- accented pronunciation of "Marie".

5. Owatonna, MN (KOWA)

Owatonna Degner Regional Airport is the gateway to southern Minnesota. The airport is named for WWII veteran, including Glenn Degner, who recognized a need for an airport in the area and helped establish it in 1946. Owatonna is a small thriving city, located one hour south of the Twin Cities—it is the perfect get away. It is home to major companies like Federated Insurance, Viracon, Jostens, and Wenger Corporation.

6. Moberly, MO (KMBY)

Omar N. Bradley Regional Airport is located between Kansas City and St. Louis and is about 30 minutes north of Columbia, Missouri. The airport is a popular fuel stop for pilots heading to Oshkosh each year because of its convenient location and low fuel prices. 8. Dodge City, KS (KDDC)

Dodge City Regional Airport is located in southwestern Kansas. The town was originally established in the 1870s partially due to its proximity to the Santa Fe Trail and the Arkansas River. It is a town rich with cowboy history that offers a variety of activities and sightseeing opportunities such as Home of Stone and the iconic landmark of Boot Hill Museum that tells the story of the Wild West. Although the days of saloons and outlaws are long gone, Dodge City is proud of its roots and western heritage.
