Image of ARC race Logo 2019 200 150 20190128144140 Wondering how Race Teams 1 through 10 get those low race numbers? In the ARC Top Ten drawing!

Every team that registers by 23:59 EST on Thursday, Jan. 31, and has not already purchased a race number is automatically entered. The 2019 drawing will be held at noon EST Saturday, Feb. 9. Don't be left out!

Right now, the odds for getting a Top Ten race number are VERY good.

  • Teams that have completed registration - 17.
  • Teams with reserved race numbers already assigned - 5.
  • Teams in the drawing for a Top Ten number as of Jan 28 - 12.

You do the math. Or hey, get your team in this free lottery. Don't miss out on this opportunity to be one of the first 10 teams launching out of Jackson on June 18th. Are you still in the process of registering your team? Get it done before January 31st, 11:59 PM. Get that registration submitted TODAY! Tick, tock...

New 2019 Rule - 1.4.8 Survival Kit

Image of SurvivalkitAR Cwaterbottle 245 225 20190128144140Image of SurvivalkitAR Cwaterbottlepacked 99 225 201901281441401.4.8 Carry, at a minimum, survival equipment for: (a) starting a fire; (b) protection from the elements for each Team member; (c) providing or purifying water; and (d) visually signaling distress.

The Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) are similar, but not identical, to our FARs in the U.S. ARC noted that the CARs have a minimal survival kit regulation, and ARC decided to integrate this into their race rules going forward.

For your convenience, if you don’t already have these items in your plane, ARC has put together a survival kit that meets these requirements, plus more! Contents include: “space” blanket, insect repellent, sunscreen, water tablets, waterproof matches, bandaids, and compass/whistle/flashlight, all contained in a 32 oz. water bottle. Cost: $20 each.

These also make great gifts for friends and family, for use in a plane, car or boat. You can build your own or simply purchase one of these handy kits.

Pre-order yours now for pickup at the Start! For more information, email finance@airraceclassic.org.

Basic Med and Flying in Canada

Just a quick clarification for prospective racers. Currently, Canada does not accept Basic Med for flying in Canada. Each race team will need to have a PIC on the Canadian legs who is flying with a 3rd class medical or better. The PIC flying in Canada "has responsibility and authority for the operation and safety of the aircraft during flight time." The PIC may allow another pilot to manipulate the controls, but that pilot can only log time flying the Canadian legs if the PIC is an instructor.

Volunteers Needed!!!

Image of We need you 200 133 20190128144140Got skills other than (or in addition) to flying?nbsp; It takes a village to make the ARC a success every year. Really, it takes a village at each of our stops and many places BEFORE the race ever starts.

The ARC is looking for a few enthusiastic volunteers to help us with some “behind the scenes” support of the race. Roles include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop enhancements to the ARC Website from a user perspective (no coding)
  • Administer a relationship management (CRM) tool
  • Organize and maintain ARC documents
  • Write job aides/training materials for website features/tools

If you are interested in one of these unique areas, contact tech@airraceclassic.org for more information or to volunteer.

If you are interested in helping out in other areas, visit the HOW TO VOLUNTEER page on the ARC website.

ARC Silent Auction

Image of Donate 200 87 20190128144140The ARC will hold it's annual Silent Auction at the Terminus in Welland, Ontario. Proceeds from this event go to help ensure the future of women’s air racing.

Because the 2019 race ends in Canada, shipping items across the border presents the issue of everything clearing customs. So we have elected to conduct the 2019 Silent Auction using gift cards, vouchers or gift certificates. Your support of the Air Race Classic in helping us secure these gift cards, vouchers or gift certificates would be greatly appreciated. Please do not hesitate to contact Shannon at (917) 747-0797 or silentauction@airraceclassic.org with any questions.
