Share Your Best ARC Story!

Do you have a fun, funny, or downright hilarious story about racing or volunteering with the ARC? We are looking for stories like these to be featured on our social media sites. We want to engage race followers and to give them an insider's view on some of the shenanigans that go on during the race! If you would like to make a submission, please send it to publicity@airraceclassic.org. Please include a photo that goes with your story. Like they always say, a picture is worth a thousand words!!!

Volunteers - Join the ARC Adventure!

Have you registered on the ARC website yet? There are several reasons why it's a good idea to take the time to create an account and complete the Volunteer form.

• It ensures that ARC and the key Volunteers at the Start, Stops, or Terminus have your information and know about your areas of interest for volunteering;
• It gives you access to additional webpages that are not available to the general public, which are critical for Stop Chairs and Head Timers, and helpful for all Volunteers;
• It signs you up for the eFlyby and eRacer newsletters that have lots of info that's important for both Racers and Volunteers (you can opt out if you prefer not to receive them); and
• It puts you on the mailing list for Thank Yous after the race, which is a fun wrap up for all the hard work you've done. Many of the Racers send out their own personalized thank you cards.

To sign up, go to www.AirRaceClassic.org, click on How to Volunteer on the right (under Get Involved), and follow the instructions. Once we receive your Volunteer form, we will review it and give you access to the Volunteer pages. Then next time you log in, look for the Volunteers link on your Account Dashboard. Questions? Hotel information at the en route Stops to be posted on the ARC website soon.

ARC is working with the Stops to gather information about hotels at each of the en route Stops. These may include hotels with discounts, hotels the Stops have recommended, or those that have certain amenities that may be supportive of Racers. As soon as we receive all the information from the Stop Chairs, a spreadsheet will be posted on the Racer Documents page www.airraceclassic.org/racer-documents.htm (you must be logged in to access it). We may post an incomplete list to help you get started, so watch for updates. A word of caution: check each hotel's cancellation policy before you book. For Racers, you may not end up at the Stop where you expect to each night - weather and other factors - flexibility and ability to adapt are among your keys to success in the race.

Order Those DHS/CBP Decals TODAY!

If you are racing or planning to fly to Canada to help out at a Stop or to celebrate at the Terminus, ARC encourages you to apply for your U.S. Department of Homeland Security Customs & Border Protection decal TODAY!

If you are a Canadian pilot flying into the U.S., you will need to purchase a CBP decal too.

Following the government shutdown, there remains a delay in delivery on the required CBP decals - up to 12 weeks. Get your orders in ASAP. If your decal is further delayed, you may check with your airport of entry to confirm that they will accept your purchase confirmation for your CBP decal, if necessary. Get Your FCC Radio Station License & Restricted Radio Operator's License

Again, if you are flying into Canada for this year's race, be sure that you get these two items.

The FCC Radio Station License is linked to your airplane, and the owner needs to have a Radio Station License. If you own your plane, you need to take care of this. If you are flying someone else's plane, then you need to work with the owner to be sure that a Radio Station License is obtained. If this is a one-time only trip to Canada, racers may contact ARC for information on obtaining a Special Temporary Authorization (STA) to request a fee waiver on the cost of this license.

The pilot must carry an FCC Restricted Radio Operator's License (RR). This is a one-time only purchase and the license is good for life.

Both of these items can be obtained online, and you simply print the documentation off from the FCC web site. See the FLYING IN CANADA page for more details.

Have You Ordered Your ARC Survival Kit?

NEW ARC Rule 1.4.8 Carry, at a minimum, survival equipment for: (a) starting a fire; (b) protection from the elements for each Team member; (c) providing or purifying water; and (d) visually signaling distress.

You can buy your own makings for a survival kit, but hey, why not buy one pre-packed and ARC-approved in a handy water bottle?

Contents include: "space" blanket, insect repellent, sunscreen, water tablets, waterproof matches, bandaids, and compass/whistle/flashlight, all contained in a 32 oz. water bottle. Cost: $20 each.
