Aircraft Qualifications for the Air Race Classic
Handicaps Unique for Each Airplane Entry – Each airplane entered will have its own unique race handicap. This handicap will be based on that airplane’s individual performance. ARC Handicap check flights will be flown by each team entered. Handicapping flight results
and airplance reference materials will be determining factors. Provisional handicaps for each
of the current year’s entries will be published in the Racer Only section of the ARC website as soon as
possible after all entries have been approved. Review the ARC Rules & Regulations included with the
Registration Kit for more details and airplane entry deadlines.
Race airplanes are limited to any production year STOCK or ARC approved modified STOCK airplanes, certified in the normal or utility category, with non-turbocharged/non-supercharged piston engines of not less than 125 horsepower nor more than 600 horsepower, rated for continuous operation at maximum engine speed. Contact airplane@airraceclassic.org with your specific situation and questions to determine eligibility.
The airplane must be able to sustain full throttle and full propeller continuous operations over the entire race route.
Teams may enter the Non-Competition Class if they fly airplanes that do not qualify in the ARC Competition Class, or desire the cross-country experience without the pressure of competition.
Airplane Inspection Procedures – There are some streamlining changes to the airplane
inspection procedures to reflect the changes being made to the airplane handicap procedures. Airplanes at
the Start will receive visual and paperwork inspections. Static run-up checks will not necessarily be required. |
