Bowling Green, KY (KBWG)

Did you know that Bowling Green, Kentucky, is the only place in the world where they manufacture Chevrolet Corvettes? The National Covette Museum is the place to check them out for yourself. There’s lots more to discover during your stop here. Downtown, check out the unique shopping and dining at Bowling Green's Downtown Fountain Square. Clothing, shoes, home decor, computers and more can all be found in The District.

Otuside town, you might travel up to Smiths Grove Historic District, 10 miles north of town, or out to Riverview at Hobson Grove. Built by Atwood and Juliet VanMeter Hobson on a hill overlooking the Barren River, Bowling Green's historic landmark has been restored to its original splendor and is listed on the National Register. An official site on the Civil War Discovery Trail, Riverview was used for storage of Confederate munitions when the Rebel forces held Bowling Green. Riverview is an elegant interpretation of a prosperous Victorian home of the 1860 to 1890 period.

At Beech Bend, there’s a wide variety of attractions. Beech Bend Raceway features NHRA drag racing and other fun events. For more participatory entertainment, go to Beech Bend Park and Splash Lagoon amusement park. Numerous caves dot the area, including Lost River Valley & Cave and Mammoth Cave.

Back on an aviation theme, and back at the airport, there’s the Aviation Heritage Park at KBWG. A memorial to all distinguished aviators who have called Warren County home, Aviation Heritage Park currently features a F-4D Phantom II. Brigadier General Dan Cherry, a Bowling Green native, was at the controls of the Phantom 550 on April 16, 1972, when he shot down a North Vietnamese MiG-21 during the Vietnam War. A formal park will be constructed and will include several aircraft of local significance.

The Bowling Green-Warren County Regional Airport was established in 1934 as a military airfield. Over the years, the Bowling Green-Warren County Regional Airport has grown to serve the ever-changing needs of the burgeoning community that surrounds it. The airport offers tours, and the 3rd annual aviation summer camp for youth takes place this summe. For more information, contact Rob Barnett, the airport manager at 270/842-1101.
